Bonus Terms Explained

Bonus terms explain what a promotional headline leaves out: who qualifies, what becomes bonus credit, which stakes count and what may eventually be withdrawn. A percentage, spin count or redemption code describes only part of an offer.

This guide follows the path from qualification to withdrawal, using invented examples to show how the wording changes a calculation. It does not assign those examples to a casino. The applicable campaign and account terms remain the relevant documents.

Read the offer in three stages

Qualify

Check account eligibility, the qualifying payment, any opt-in and the code attached to that campaign. A valid-looking code does not prove your account qualifies.

Use the credit

Identify the bonus amount, wagering basis, multiplier, eligible games, contribution rates and permitted stakes. Read expiry separately from the deadline for claiming.

Convert or withdraw

Check cashout caps, balance removal, verification and cancellation consequences. A completed counter does not itself establish that every account condition is met.

Keep the exact offer name and terms together. A welcome match, no-deposit chip and reload at the same operator can be separate campaigns. Do not fill a missing condition with wording from another promotion simply because the brand is the same.

The sign-up bonus guide covers qualification, while bonus codes explains campaign matching. The operator’s stated account restrictions need checking before interpreting the headline value.

The multiplier needs a defined basis

“35× wagering” does not specify the target until the terms identify what is multiplied. Bonus-only and deposit-plus-bonus requirements can use the same multiplier and produce different figures.

A fictional match calculation

Imagine an A$25 qualifying deposit receiving an A$75 bonus. At 35× the bonus alone, the counted target is A$75 × 35 = A$2,625. At 35× deposit plus bonus, it is A$100 × 35 = A$3,500.

Those are turnover targets, not deposit instructions or expected losses. The larger displayed balance does not become immediately withdrawable merely because the promotion was credited.

Game contribution is a separate percentage. At a fictional 25% contribution, each A$1 of eligible stakes adds A$0.25 of counted progress. The A$2,625 target would therefore correspond to A$10,500 of eligible stakes if no progress had already been credited and the rate stayed unchanged.

Use the wagering calculator to check the arithmetic. Read the low wagering guide before comparing multipliers without their bases and contribution schedules.

Maximum wagers and excluded games are different restrictions

A game can be eligible for wagering while a particular stake breaches a maximum-wager rule. Likewise, a game contributing 0% does not advance the counter; that is not necessarily the same wording as a game being prohibited during the promotion.

Check how optional extra bets or feature purchases are treated. A small base setting does not prove that a much larger purchase meets the campaign’s limit. Our bonus buy guide explains that cost distinction.

Spin count, spin value and winnings are separate

Promotional free spins normally need a specified game and monetary stake to be understood. Do not substitute another title or stake just because both are available in the lobby. Check whether the allocation arrives at once or in batches, and which expiry applies.

A fictional free-spin allocation

Ten spins at A$0.10 each represent A$1 of allocated stakes. That does not promise A$1 of winnings. If the spins actually produce A$3.20 and the terms apply 25× wagering to those winnings, the counted target is A$80.

At a fictional 50% contribution, the remaining eligible stakes would be A$160 with no previous progress. The example assumes the terms use actual winnings as the basis; another campaign can define it differently.

Spins awarded as an operator promotion are also different from a feature triggered within a game. Read free spins bonuses and no-deposit free spins for those distinctions. Neither phrase establishes unrestricted cash.

Find out what happens to each balance

Terms may distinguish deposited funds, bonus credit and awards. Ask which balance is used first, what happens when a bonus is cancelled and which amounts remain after a withdrawal request. Do not assume a single on-screen total answers all three.

Labels such as “sticky” and “non-sticky” need an explicit definition. If terms state that the bonus amount is removed at withdrawal, that amount should not be counted as cash you will receive. If a different balance arrangement is described, use its actual rules rather than importing another operator’s definition.

A fictional cashout cap

Suppose an offer expressly limits eligible withdrawals to five times a specified A$10 bonus: A$50. A displayed A$120 promotional balance would not establish an A$120 entitlement under that rule. The terms must also explain what happens to any remaining balance.

A promotional cap is different from a weekly payment ceiling. The first concerns eligibility under the offer; the second can concern instalments of an eligible amount. Read withdrawal limits and account verification separately.

Keep a complete offer record

  • Campaign: name, code, verification date and applicable currency.
  • Qualification: account restrictions, payment requirement and opt-in.
  • Allocation: bonus ceiling, spin game, stake and release schedule.
  • Wagering: basis, multiplier, contribution and already credited progress.
  • Restrictions: maximum stake, excluded activity and deadlines.
  • Withdrawal: cap, balance conversion, removal and verification conditions.

A claim deadline and a wagering deadline are different clocks. If terms say “seven days”, establish when that period starts and the relevant time zone. Do not treat a deadline as a reason to spend beyond a limit.

If wording conflicts, retain the versions and ask for clarification before relying on the smaller requirement. Our deposit match guide and existing-player guide cover different offer types. A larger headline cannot compensate for an unknown condition.

Game RTP is not the expected value of a whole promotion. The RTP calculator addresses a different calculation. For the wider context, read Australian gambling laws, visit responsible gambling for support or return to the guides hub.

Bonus terms FAQs

What does a wagering multiplier apply to?

Use the basis stated in the campaign. Bonus only, deposit plus bonus and actual promotional spin winnings are different bases and can produce different targets.

Does wagering turnover mean the amount I must deposit?

No. Turnover is the sum of eligible stakes. It is not a deposit requirement, predicted loss or guarantee that a particular balance will complete the target.

How does game contribution work?

A 25% contribution would count A$0.25 of each eligible A$1 stake. Check the actual schedule and do not confuse 0% contribution with a separate prohibited-game rule.

Is an eligible game exempt from a maximum-wager rule?

No. Game eligibility and permitted stake are separate conditions. Read how extra bets and feature purchases are treated.

Are the allocated value and winnings of free spins identical?

No. Spin count multiplied by stake describes allocated stakes, not guaranteed winnings. Use the actual winnings only if the terms identify them as the wagering basis.

Are promotional free spins the same as an in-game feature?

No. An operator’s promotional allocation has campaign terms. A feature triggered within a game follows that game’s rules.

What do sticky and non-sticky mean?

Read the campaign’s explicit balance rules. These labels should not replace checking how bonus credit, deposited funds and awards are used, cancelled or removed.

Is a bonus cashout cap the same as a weekly payment limit?

No. A bonus cap can restrict the amount eligible for withdrawal under the promotion. A period payment limit concerns a different stage.

Does no deposit mean no other conditions?

No. The phrase concerns one qualification condition. Eligibility, wagering, expiry, cashout caps and account checks still need to be read separately.

Does completing wagering guarantee withdrawal approval?

No. It resolves only the applicable counter if the inputs and credited progress are correct. Other offer, account, verification and payment conditions remain separate.
